(31 of those entries were written this month.)<\/li>\n<li>I finished another novel (103,000 words, but many of those words were written in previous drafts.)<\/li>\n<li>I was laid off and spent a <em>lot<\/em> of time with my wife.<\/li>\n<li>I started a podcast.<\/li>\n<li>I attended two conferences.<\/li>\n<li>I started freelancing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Looking back at the year&#8217;s Juggling Writer posts, here are some of my favorites.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>My Faves<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>January:<\/strong> <a title=\"Link to 10 Things Writers Can Learn From Conan O'Brien.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/01\/23\/ten-things-writers-can-learn-from-conan-obrien\/\">10 Things Writers Can Learn from Conan O&#8217;Brien<\/a>. While the link to the Masturbating Bear video is no longer good, the points made are. Above all, Conan is the embodiment of what can happen to a hard working nice person.<\/p>\n<p><em>Honorable Mention:<\/em> <a title=\"Link to The Platform of Silence.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/01\/29\/the-platform-of-silence\/\">The Platform of Silence<\/a>. Written after J.D. Salinger died. It&#8217;s more about a writer&#8217;s platform. I didn&#8217;t know before attending the Writer&#8217;s League of Texas Agents Conference that most agents don&#8217;t put a huge emphasis on platform (a view <a title=\"Link to a tweet by Jason Pinter about fiction and platform.\" href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/jasonpinter\/status\/19261327834873856\">repeated the other night<\/a> on Twitter by writer and agent, <a title=\"Link to Jason Pinter's website.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonpinter.com\">Jason Pinter<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>February: <\/strong><a title=\"Link to Copy Cats.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/02\/15\/copy-cats\/\">Copy Cats<\/a>. An entry about writing your own thing, even if it&#8217;s not what&#8217;s hot.<\/p>\n<p><em>Honorable Mention:<\/em> <a title=\"Link to Shut Up and Listen.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/02\/19\/shut-up-and-listen\/\">Shut Up and Listen<\/a>. Many people ask for advice and then don&#8217;t listen. They think they are better than others and don&#8217;t listen to the way some people talk. Some people don&#8217;t listen to the world around them. This is why you need to listen!<\/p>\n<p><strong>March:<\/strong> <a title=\"Link to the Monday Motivation entry about Living.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/03\/15\/monday-motivation-living\/\">Monday Motivation: Living<\/a>. You can&#8217;t write well without having lived some.<\/p>\n<p><em>Honorable Mention:<\/em> <a title=\"Link to the Monday Motivation entry about Courage.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/03\/01\/monday-motivation-the-courage\/\">Monday Motivation: Courage<\/a>. Writing takes courage. When compared to bigger acts of courage, putting yourself out there is nothing. You practically owe it to those who have done courageous things to find some courage yourself!<\/p>\n<p><strong>April:<\/strong> <a title=\"Link to Defining Moments.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/04\/09\/defining-moments\/\">Defining Moments<\/a>. Is there a defining moment in your life that exhibits the qualities you need to make it as a writer? Here&#8217;s mine&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>Honorable Mention:<\/em> <a title=\"Link to When I Win the Lottery.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/04\/05\/when-i-win-the-lottery\/\">When I Win the Lottery<\/a>. What would you do if you won the lottery? Are you working toward that life right now? You should be &#8212; and here&#8217;s how to start.<\/p>\n<p><strong>May:<\/strong> <a title=\"Link to The Trusted Reader.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/05\/26\/the-trusted-reader\/\">The Trusted Reader<\/a>. To find great trusted readers, you need to be a trusted reader yourself.<\/p>\n<p><em>Honorable Mention:<\/em> <a title=\"Link to the Monday Motivation entry about hard work.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/05\/24\/monday-motivation-work-hard\/\">Hard Work<\/a>. If you&#8217;re afraid of hard work, you&#8217;re going to have a hard time making it as a writer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>June:<\/strong> <a title=\"Link to the Monday Motivation entry about the luckiest thing.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/06\/13\/monday-motivation-the-luckiest-thing\/\">The Luckiest Thing<\/a>. If you have people in your life you love &#8212; and who love you in return &#8212; you&#8217;re a lucky person. Sometimes it&#8217;s better to get away from the desk, even with deadlines looming, and remind people how much you care about them.<\/p>\n<p><em>Honorable Mention:<\/em> Writers&#8217; League of Texas Agents Conference <a title=\"Link to the Writers' League of Texas Agents Conference Day 1 recap.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/06\/27\/wlt-agents-conference-day-1-recap\/\">Day 1<\/a> and <a title=\"Link to the Writers' League of Texas Agents Conference Day 2 recap.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/06\/28\/wlt-agents-conference-day-2-recap\/\">Day 2<\/a> recaps. Okay, so they&#8217;re more notes from a couple great panels with agents. Definitely worth reading.<\/p>\n<p><strong>July:<\/strong> <a title=\"Link to Tweet or Die.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/07\/06\/tweet-or-die\/\">Tweet or Die<\/a>. How important is a Twitter account as part of a writer&#8217;s platform? How important is having a platform to a fiction writer? If you don&#8217;t tweet, will your chances of making it as a writer suffer?<\/p>\n<p><em>Honorable Mention:<\/em> <a title=\"Link to Very Short Stories.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/07\/24\/very-short-stories\/\">Very Short Stories<\/a>. I love short stories, and with the Web, I&#8217;ve grown to love some <em>very short<\/em> stories.<\/p>\n<p><strong>August:<\/strong> <a title=\"Link to 5 Things You Can Do Right Now to Be a Better Writer Next Month.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/08\/26\/5-things-you-can-do-right-now-to-be-a-better-writer-next-month\/\">5 Things You Can Do Right Now to Be a Better Writer Next Month<\/a>. As you think about resolutions for 2011, this is a good entry to read for every month next year!<\/p>\n<p><em>Honorable Mention:<\/em> <a title=\"Link to The Rawness of a Duck.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/08\/20\/the-rawness-of-a-duck\/\">The Rawness of a Duck<\/a>. Overly polished writing lacks something. This entry is about why I like a bit of rawness to my writing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September:<\/strong> <a title=\"Link to the Monday Motivation entry about Labor Day.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/09\/06\/monday-motivation-labor-day\/\">Monday Motivation: Labor Day<\/a>. I work on Labor Day; I work on writing. Here&#8217;s why&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>Honorable Mention:<\/em> <a title=\"Link to Banned Books Week.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/09\/30\/banned-books-week\/\">Banned Books Week<\/a>. I don&#8217;t get political on <em>The Juggling Writer<\/em>. This entry was an exception to that rule.<\/p>\n<p><strong>October:<\/strong> <a title=\"Link to How to Read Out Loud.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/10\/06\/how-to-read-out-loud\/\">How to Read Out Loud<\/a>. I started <a title=\"Link to the Road Trip From Hell Facebook page.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.roadtripfromhell.com\">a podcast<\/a> in October. Each week, I read a chapter from my first novel. I have a hard time reading out loud and shared some tips in this entry. Oh, and I love the photo for the entry, too! (Makes me laugh every time I see it.)<\/p>\n<p><em>Honorable Mention:<\/em> <a title=\"Link to the Monday Motivation entry about influences.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/10\/04\/monday-motivation-influences\/\">Monday Motivation: Influences<\/a>.\u00a0 An entry about the people and things that influenced me as a writer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>November: <\/strong><a title=\"Link to The Power of Healthy Arrogance.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/11\/05\/the-power-of-healthy-arrogance\/\">The Power of Healthy Arrogance<\/a>. A little bit of the <em>right<\/em> kind of arrogance can take you far.<\/p>\n<p><em>Honorable Mention:<\/em> <a title=\"Link to the Monday Motivation entry about writing descriptive passages.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/11\/01\/monday-motivation-how-to-write-descriptive-passages\/\">Monday Motivation: How to Write Descriptive Passages<\/a>. An entry about descriptions in stories and a bit about a game I like to play while driving.<\/p>\n<p><strong>December:<\/strong> <a title=\"Link to A Year Ago Today.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/12\/17\/a-year-ago-today\/\">A Year Ago Today<\/a>. This may be my favorite entry of the year. Written on the one-year anniversary of being laid off from the longest job I ever held, I let pictures tell the story&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Honorable Mentions: <a title=\"Link to The Best Productivity Tip I Know.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christophergronlund.com\/blog\/tjw\/2010\/12\/16\/the-best-productivity-tip-i-know\/\">The Best Productivity Tip I Know<\/a>. I think this entry was a favorite with readers.
